Khalil is an experienced commercial litigator, with a particular focus on contentious tax disputes, civil fraud and insolvency. He has particular expertise in indirect tax litigation and has been involved in several of the leading HMRC VAT and Excise cases.

Having been called to the Bar in 2006, he initially worked in HMRC’s Solicitors Office. He then joined a Tier 1 Fraud firm, where was involved in some of the most high-profile civil fraud and VAT cases in the tax Tribunals and High Court.

As the head of the department, he expanded it into a full service Commercial litigation department, with its key expertise in:

• Insolvency (acting for both corporates and individuals)

• Debt Claims
• Enforcement (including cross-border enforcements)
• Tax Advisory
• HMRC Investigations

His clients range from High Net-worth individuals to Corporates to Insolvency Practitioners to International Trusts.

In 2017 Khalil went into private practice and was appointed Senior Tax Counsel to an International Corporate, where he oversaw all the company’s tax matters, as well as implementing key changes in response to legislative and legal developments. He worked directly with the board, as well as numerous professional advisors, instructing and co-ordinating their tax affairs across multiple jurisdictions.

Khalil has been recognised for his achievements in the Legal 500.
